About
Dr. Blackman received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Maryland, College Park, and went on to receive her MSEd and PsyD from Pace University’s School-Clinical Child Psychology program. Throughout her graduate training she worked as a school psychology intern in the Elizabeth, New Jersey public school system, trained at The William Alanson White Institute’s child and family center, and completed her pre-doctoral and post-doctoral internships at The School at Columbia University, working as a school psychologist with children in grades K-8. Upon graduating in 2015, Alix worked at a lovely group practice where she provided neuropsychological evaluations, therapy, and parent guidance in the Brooklyn Heights community. In 2019 she started her own practice and continues to serve the Brooklyn Heights and greater Brooklyn community today.
Alix is a dedicated clinician who uses both knowledge and intuition to guide her work. She works deeply to help her clients slow down, connect to their own nervous systems, and become embodied. Meditative (grounding) exercises and breathwork are often utilized as part of the therapy frame in order to facilitate a more connected and regulated experience. Working somatically, or in the body, has become an integral piece of Dr. Blackman’s way of supporting her clients. Often times we try to think our way out of things we simply need to feel, and through feeling we find the roadmap to navigate our way out of old, stuck, or stored emotions. The body’s natural intelligence never fails!
My Story
For as long as I can remember I have been an admirer of other humans. This curiosity propelled me toward understanding those around me. Why they do the things they do, act as they act, perceive as they perceive. When this curiosity collided with my big heart, my passion in life simply became people. We are so much more nuanced than we give ourselves credit for and I recognized at a fairly young age (12 to be exact) that psychology was the path for me. Fast forward to over 20 years later and my passion to understand combined with my innate care for others has not dwindled. I believe we each have a story that is worthy of attention and love. Part of my story is to know and support you as you turn the pages of your own.
My Values
As a psychologist I am bound to a set of ethical standards which serve to support and protect. As a human, I value honesty, integrity, and mutual
respect. I take deep pride in the work I do and in the relationships I create with my clients. I take the utmost care in my communication and view our work as highly collaborative. My purpose is to provide you with quality care to assist you in meeting your goals, increasing awareness, and
growing in the ways you wish to grow.
